About Us

Organisational Overview
Global Girl Project (GGP) is an international and grassroots feminist charity that mobilises marginalised girls within the Majority World to become agents of social change, through community development and social action. GGP was founded 10 years ago in the US as a registered 501(c)3 non-profit and then became registered in the UK as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2019. GGP works globally, within the Global Majority, in partnership with well-established organisations to run innovative and impactful leadership
programming for girls aged 13 to 18 years.

Global Girl Project works intentionally from an anti-colonial and non-patriarchal framework and is growing a team of professionals from within the regions we work that also work from and value above most else, this way of working.

In addition, as identified by our recent Board Skills Audit we are looking for an individual with one or more of the following areas of expertise

●Previous Board experience, with a solid understanding of duties and best practices in governance and compliance
●Experience as a Board chair, vice-chair or co-chair, with a willingness to step into this role for GGP once fully onboarded
●Fundraising experience, ideally with grant and trust fundraising as well as fundraising best practice

Role Overview

Global Girl Project is seeking a Board Member with significant board knowledge and experience, and possible experience as a board Chair. As part of a growing international grassroots charity, your role will be integral in driving the growth that Global Girl Project needs to achieve in the coming year, in order to increase our impact. The ideal candidate will bring  with her/them an established network of professionals that are connected both into feminist leadership and feminist funding spaces.
We are in a period of growth, and as a feminist charity doing things differently, we need new and creative ways to fundraise and ensure our ongoing growth and sustainability.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
●Attend online board meetings every eight weeks and provide tangible updates on areas of responsibility and previously committed actions. To accommodate our global Board the meetings take place on a Thursday between 1 - 3pm UK.
●Attend, in person or virtually, the annual strategy meeting in London. Attendance in person is strongly encouraged, but is not mandatory.
●Actively participate in discussion and strategy decisions, during meetings, as well as via email and Whatsapp.
●Ensure GGP continues to meet its set targets and objectives and is operating at its maximum potential, helping as many girls globally as possible.
●Identify any issues within the organisation through continued monitoring and commitment to growth using knowledge of charity commission compliance
●Support the vital work of Global Girl Project by raising or giving a minimum of 1450 USD / £1200 GBP per year, as part of our board Give or Get Commitment
●Be an active advocate for the work and impact of GGP by sharing stories, making connections, identifying fundraising and partnership opportunities, and encouraging your network to be involved in our work.
●As a feminist organisation we are committed to always participating in the spirit of collaboration, respect, authenticity and with a commitment to constructive feedback and challenge, where appropriate
●Referrals and connections to funders that will be motivated to support the work of GGP
●Onboarding new HNWI into our network of Ambassadors, in order to create more sustainable funding opportunities for the organisation.
●Share insights/knowledge/expertise of UK and/or global fundraising landscape. We expect the above to mean a generous contribution of a minimum of 8 hours per month to your role as board member and to advancing GGPs strategy, objectives and impact.


This is a voluntary unremunerated role, and the commitment is to prepare for and attend 6 board meetings per year virtually. The appointment is for an initial three-year term, with the potential to extend for another three years.

Person Specification

Essential
●Must be a woman or non-binary person from the Global Majority, but does not need to be living there at the moment.
●Previous board experience understanding the responsibilities and liabilities of a board member.
●A willingness to step into a co-chair role for GGP once fully onboarded and agreed upon by the board and CEO.
●A passion to advocate for girls in Global Majority communities globally
●The viewpoint of the strengths and self-efficacy of the economically-developing world and an understanding that community change needs to come from within

●A confident communicator with experience working with international teams
●Ability to leverage strong connections within your local community of feminist funders and leaders using significant resources
●Knowledge of safeguarding procedures or willingness to familiarise
Desirable
●Demonstrated experience with successful fundraising, in particular grant writing experience
●Experience in the corporate world and working knowledge of corporate fundraising
●Working knowledge of policies and procedures within an NGO including the charity commission compliance


Strategy & Governance
●Ensure you are familiar with the GGP Constitution, strategy and Charity Commission status
●Be familiar with the organisation budget and actively engage in financial risk
management as part of board meetings.
●Maintain confidentiality of private information of the organisation and staff
●Agree that Global Girl Project’s intellectual property is owned by the organisation and shall not be shared publicly or in other positions.
●Ensure GGP meets our targets and objectives (as set out in our strategic plan) and is operating at its maximum potential
●Ensure you keep up-to-date on the business of GGP via the CEO’s monthly reports and other information shared
●Identify any issues within the organisation including, but not limited to, financial management, risk management and compliance with the UK Charity Commission compliance

Advocacy
●Understand GGP objectives and programming, build the confidence and understanding to advocate for GGP
●Listening to and respecting the views of everyone involved in GGP, irrespective of hierarchy. At GGP the voices of our girls, staff and volunteers are all valued for their range of perspectives and contributions.
●Contribute to raising the profile of GGP by being an active advocate and spokesperson for the organisation and our work
●Assist all fundraising and promotional activities
●Assist with GGP marketing and communications including social media postings
●Support with the expansion of GGP by identifying new partnership and fundraising opportunities
