Global Girl Project Partners with Strong Enough Girls’ Empowerment Initiative in Nigeria

We are thrilled to announce our programme partnership with Strong Enough Girls’ Empowerment Initiative (SEGEI) to relaunch our work in Nigeria with the September 2024 Global Girl Leadership Initiative cohort! This collaboration is a major step forward in our mission to empower marginalised girls in the Majority World and expand our work in the African continent.

SEGEI is a women-led and youth-focused non-profit organisation, committed to helping girls and women from low-resourced backgrounds find their voices, access the resources they need, and harness their talents through formal and informal education, mentorship, and life skills development. They are present in five countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, and the United States where they partner with government agencies, community leaders, schools, and local communities across Nigeria to empower women and girls.

This partnership is a part of Global Girl Project’s strategic expansion into Nigeria and Ethiopia in 2025, where we aim to bring our innovative leadership programmes to even more girls across the continent. By working with SEGEI, we will leverage their deep and extensive connections within Nigerian communities to provide tailored and impactful training for girls to effect sustainable change in their communities.

Speaking on the partnership, Global Girl Project’s CEO and Founder, Jules Lynch, stated, “At Global Girl Project, we believe that true transformation occurs when grassroots organisations, deeply embedded in their communities, join forces to create change. This belief has driven us to partner with well-established, local organisations around the world, and we are happy to add SEGEI to our list of partners. SEGEI joins a global network that includes Skateistan in Afghanistan, South Africa, and Cambodia, the Milaan Foundation in India, Reclaim Childhood in Jordan, Foundation TOYA in Haiti, the Latin American Foundation for the Future in Peru, the AYNI Skate Program in Bolivia (through Skateistan), Katswe Sistahood in Zimbabwe, and Soccer Without Borders in Uganda.”

SEGEI’s Founder and Executive Director, Queen C Ugwoeru, also commented, “SEGEI is excited about this partnership with Global Girl Project to bring the Global Girl Leadership Initiative to girls in low resource areas in Nigeria. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to IGNITE, NURTURE, and HARNESS the intellectual, emotional, and social strengths of girls in the communities we work in. Together, we hope to create a lasting impact, fostering a generation of empowered female leaders who will drive positive change in their communities and Nigeria at large.”
